5 Ingredient Low Sugar Margarita

Who does’t love frozen Margaritas? Do you know anyone that turns down Margaritas? I know I can’t. It’s actually kind of a problem… There’s a place in New Orleans called Superior Grill that has delicious, seriously strong margaritas. I’m not even exaggerating, you drink one and you’re good for the night. When anyone asks if I want to go to Superior’s happy hour, my mind says no but my mouth says absolutely.

However delicious, those margaritas are loaded with sugar, cheap tequila, and probably lots of funky ingredients (not funky in a good way). But I can’t deprive myself of these tasty, tart beverages. I mean I can’t really deprive myself of anything, but especially not margaritas! So of course I have my own delicious, lower sugar version. And not to toot my own horn, but these come pretty darn close to Superior’s! A friend that tried one actually said they were the best she’s ever had! And let me tell you – they get the job done if you know what I mean. 2 shots per marg people! I’m not messing around here.

When we’re talking margaritas, we’re talking lime juice and lots of it. So we need something sweet to cut all that bitter. But sugar? No. We have to keep that as low as possible! Insert NuNaturals. This is my favorite brand of stevia. I was first exposed to this brand when I worked at a gluten free, dairy free, and egg free restaurant and bakery in college. We used it in our homemade lemonade, limeade, and sweet tea. At the end of the night we got to take home whatever was leftover if we wanted to. And when life gives you sugar free limeade without a weird aftertaste….you make margaritas! This recipe was made with their cocktail syrup, but they have a whole line of awesome products. I use their liquid vanilla stevia daily in my morning coffee, and take the stevia packets to go. AND they have collagen peptides. My smoothies aren’t complete without them!

Let’s talk about how easy these are to make. 5 ingredients?! Ice really doesn’t even count. But I counted it because I follow the rules. But soooo easy. And only 5g of sugar per drink!? You can’t get better than that. Now, these are pretty tart but super refreshing. I recommend drinking one on a hot Friday afternoon or on a beach trip. With lots of guacamole and fresh salsa. There is nothing better.
