I’m headed out for a work trip soon and I thought I’d share what have come to be my travel essentials. Life when you’re traveling is usually quite different than life at home, so it’s super important to be prepared for any situation! Make sure you pack these items on your next trip to make being in an unknown city just a bit easier!
Travel Essentials
- Passport, Driver’s License, Insurance Card, etc. – This is kind of common sense. But important to note! What if you twist your ankle hiking on a mountain in Utah and go to the emergency room and have to pay out of pocket for your medical bill?! Really in this day and age they can probably look up stuff like insurance, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. And you just can’t get on a plane without your ID soooo yeah
- Tote bag – OKAY. This is important. You don’t want a bag that’s too big, or it will get too heavy. You also don’t want a bag that is too small, because then you can’t fit everything you need in it. And it needs to go with all your outfits. So I like to stick to a neutral leather or black, medium-sized bag, like the one above.
- Portable phone charger – nothing sucks more than your phone dying and having to go back to the hotel to charge it. Keep a portable charger with you and you’ll always be connected. But more importantly always have access to directions!
- Reuseable Water Bottle – save money, protect yourself from BPA, and do the green thang. Re-fill that thing up any time you see a water fountain! Or an aquaduct outlet if your in Roma.
- Go Stak – I love my go stak! It’s great for packing smaller amount of things that come in big containers. Things like collagen peptides, nuts/nut butter, hummus, powdered magnesium, supplements, or protein powder. Obviously you can choose what to put in the little containers, so its great for bringing your nutritional must-haves.
- A good book – I’m a nerd and love to read. I also can’t sleep on planes and hate long layovers. If reading isn’t for you, you can also download a bunch of podcasts beforehand or bring a little pocket sodoku book (am I the only person who still likes sodoku?) Or just scroll through Instagram for hours on end. Whatever floats your boat and occupies your downtime!
- Supplements – I am not a supplement junkie, but certain ones are great for travel. I like to bring probiotics to keep me regular, magnesium for relaxation and sleep. Other good ones to pack would be a multivitamin since most people don’t eat enough veggies out of town. Same goes for a good quality fish oil. A B vitamin complex might even be a good idea to keep your energy up. Obviously this is very individual, but bring whatever is going to make you feel best when you’re out of your ordinary environment!
- Snacks – apples, carrots, boiled eggs, and protein bars are my go-to. My current favorite bars are RX Bars. You can also bring snacks in a mason jar or other glass container, then fill it back up on your way home! I just really hate overpaying for (mostly) crappy food at airports, so I like to be prepared.
- Side note: I was at LAX once and a Healthade Kombucha was LITERALLY TWELVE DOLLARS. No thank you I will drink my water fountain water and avoid gas on the plane.
- Tea/Coffee – for all the snobs out there! I actually like to go to coffee shops and try their local brews, but if you know you have early mornings and have to resort to the hotel stuff, it’s good to bring your own. I also like to bring a specific tea made by Yogi called Get Regular. Basically it helps you poop.
- Comfortable Shoes – You will most likely be doing lots of walking! Bring comfortable, quality sandals in the summer, cute tennis shoes, and leave the heels at home.
- A Jacket – Remember, preparation is key. It’s always smart to check the weather, but a light jacket is a great add on to any outfit when going out to dinner and it’s a little chillier than expected.
- Lip Balm – Okay, this is an everyday essential for me. But seriously you don’t want to deal with dry, cracked, peeling lips when you’re trying to have some fun and experience new cultures!
