2018 came with a lot of change right off the bat. The biggest change was moving to a new apartment in a different part of New Orleans with my guy. And as they say, change is not always easy. And in this situation, it was the hardest.
Let me paint this picture for you: it’s New Years Day and I am extremely hungover after ringing in the New Year at a party on St. Charles Avenue that had models hanging from the ceiling, a Prince impersonator, and bottles of champagne in bathtubs. Needless to say, I slept until noon and was really not prepared to move my entire life into a U-haul. But, I had to suck it up and do it.
Item by item, we put all my things into my car, Grant’s car, and the U-haul. Somehow, by the grace of God, we made it in one piece with all of our things, and even managed to put most of it away on January 1st. It’s now been a full month since we’ve been in our new home and we could not be happier.
We found this place back in December on Zillow, a real estate website/app. I remember seeing it and immediately thinking, Dang that’s a nice place. The more we looked at it, the more we fell in love. Then we had a viewing and fell even more in love! The house was built in the early 1900s, and is the renovated ground level of a house in Mid-City. I would use the term basement, but nothing is underground in NOLA because were built over a swamp! I just adored the cypress walls, barn door, color scheme, and updated appliances. As our landlord told us, the places you spend the most time are the kitchen, bathroom, and closet, so they did a really fantastic job with those spaces.
We can’t wait to have everyone over this Mardi Gras for Endymion in a few weeks. We love our new Mid-City location and easy access to everything we need. Here’s a peek into our new place. I hope you love it as much as we do!
Here’s the living room. The only new items we bought were the TV stand, rug, and white covers for the pillows. Everything else was hand-me-downs, thift store finds!
Ahhhhhh the kitchen. I love the kitchen. I feel so spoiled. We have a 5 burner stove, farmhouse sink, and SO MUCH storage. It’s just the best!
This bar cart belonged to Grant’s grandfather! How cool?!
And this bathroom! Kitchen and bathroom tie for first. I mean, just look at the tub. What a beauty. And we have a roomy, bright walk-in shower. It is such a treat to have two sinks too!
Last but not least, Here’s the bedroom and closet. A beautiful cypress barn door opens into the bedroom, which is cozy and serene.
And then comes the walk-in closet. It is huge and incredible, and kind of makes me want to go shopping and add more things to it because it is so big. It’s amazing.
And that’s everything! This space is only about 900 square feet, but our landlords did such an amazing job of laying everything out, we have never felt cramped. I wish I could take credit for such a beautiful renovation, but all we really did was move our stuff in! I hope you enjoyed this little peek into our new home! Have you recently moved? Are you redecorating? Let me know in the comments!
